There are 4 types of laser systems used in purpose of laser hair removal. These are Alexandrite, Nd:YAG, Diode ve Ruby Laser systems. Ruby laser system is rarely used in our country and the world. Other systems must be selected and applied according to patient’s skin and hair type.
Ruby lasers have 694nm, Alexandrite lasers have 770nm, Nd:YAG lasers have 1064nm, Diode lasers have 800nm of wavelengths approximately. There is another hair removal method which is not a laser system, but used under that name, IPL hair removal methods. IPL methods’ results are not exactly permanent and not advised by FDA or prestigious doctors.
Polyclinic Choice for Laser Hair Removal
Laser Hair Removal treatment is not a simple care or beauty treatment and must be applied by competent specialists. Treatments which are done by not competent people can cause serious problems like burn scars, discolorations and such. Moreover, these practices are not likely gives the desired results. Therefore, these treatments must be applied in licensed polyclinics by Ministry of Health.
Laser Hair Removal Totally Safe?
Laser hair removal by licensed doctors is approved by FDA. Practice does not contain a risk of infection or a contagious disease. Practice is not carcinogenic. Devices have cooling systems to prevent or minimize any after surgery erythemas.
A laser hair removal practice session takes 10-90 minutes, depending on the region. Device type and technicality is another factor that affects session duration. Alexandrite laser systems have the shortest duration of practice session among others. Permanent results are taken between 3 - 8 sessions. It is not right and realistic to determin a certain number of sessions. After a session is completed, if it is seen as a necessity by your doctor, next session is planned. Pain felt during the operation differs from one device to another. Speciality of your doctor is another factor in this matter. Patients usually describes the pain as “a light burning feel”.
Laser hair removal treatments are not appropriate for people who uses medicine which may interact with the practice, has certain skin diseases, are younger than 12 years old or pregnant. High factored sunscreens must not be used for 1 week. Solarium is not advised for one week and direct sunlight exposure must be protected as much as possible. These warnings will be instructed to you by your doctor, after the session.
